December 2018 - Life safety applications at UL Laboratories UK – Basingstoke

BDS have been appointed the main fire alarm contractor for all life safety applications at UL Laboratories UK – Basingstoke. We have been instructed by Maris Interiors to Design, Supply, Install and Commission a new Fire Alarm System using Advanced Equipment with Apollo protocol field devices and a VESDA Aspirating system.

November 2018 - Southside 105 Victoria Street Gent

An Old 9 Panel Gent system upgraded to Gent ‘Compact’ Network creating backward compatibility and future proofing with the new ‘S-quad’ protocol. The original system was over 20 years old and was in desperate need of upgrading.

BDS have completed the replacement of nine Gent 8000 panels with twelve Gent ‘Compacts’. The works were carried out over 3 consecutive weekends to minimise disruption. The upgrade was installed successfully, and we are now waiting to provide costs to upgrade all field devices. e

October 2018 - Dorset Square Upgrade Conventional to Analogue addressable

BDS were asked to future proof the current fire alarm system by changing over the existing 20-year-old 6 Zone conventional panel when one of the floors in Dorset Square was having a refit, we supplied a Morley ZXE 5 Loop panel created a new loop for the Newley refitted floor so all new devices will individually give an address indication and then used Apollo Zone modules to allow the 6 zones and conventional sounder circuits to still operate.

As the other floors will be refitted in the near future, the upgrade has allowed to phase in the floors when timescales and budgets allow.

September 2018 - ‘Cutlers Hall’

BDS have been successful in being awarded the maintenance for the Fire Alarms & Security Systems at the historic ‘Cutlers Hall’ via our long-term client Argent FM.

This fifth and present Hall was built on land in Warwick Lane, which had been the site of the Royal College of Physicians from 1674 to 1825 and subsequently a foundry. The new Hall was designed by Mr. T. Tayler Smith, the Company’s Surveyor, and came into use on March 7th, 1888.

August 2018 - BDS awarded the maintenance at The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club

Also known as the All England Club, BDS have managed to negotiate the annual maintenance of the Fire alarm systems at Wimbledon. We supply a compliant maintenance regime, on site project management and full engineering support during the world-famous tournament.

July 2018 - Court House Hotel

BDS have been awarded the fire alarm maintenance of a grade 2 Listed old Magistrates Court converted into a 160 room Hotel, we were initially asked to carry out a validation of the GENT Fire Alarm System give advice on any ongoing issues & make the necessary remedial repairs, discussions are also in place to supply a quotation for a new graphics front end.

April 2018 - New Partnership with FirePro

Fire Products UK (FirePro UK) supplies complementary and innovative fire engineering products that will rapidly detect, alert, and extinguish fire at the earliest possible stage, and long before the arrival of Fire & Rescue Services. Lithium batteries are now ever present in devices from hand tools to the hybrid vehicles and more.Whilst this is a positive step for the environment, the converse may apply in cases when malfunction occurs, resulting in fire - Read their news article here

February 2018 - BDS ahead of the game! – when Quality counts we deliver.

BDS have always been audited and certified to ISO 9001 for our Quality Management Systems so when we heard that the old standard would become obsolete in September of 2018 we set to work on understanding the task ahead.

This was not so easy to grasp, and we invested in the process by sending our Compliance Manager, Graham Hawkins, to the NSI’s offices in Maidenhead to attend their course in the Transition from ISO9001-2008 to the new standard ISO 9001-2015. So now with a certificate to say we understand the task in hand and a clearer plan of what we needed to do, we worked through the changes and came out the other side with a new compliant QMS and, following our audit in December last year, we are now proud to announce: We did it!<

February 2018 - North Hertfordshire Homes

BDS have recently been given the instruction to undertake multiple emergency light upgrades across their current schemes. The schemes themselves comprise of a variety of buildings stretching from retirement living, flexicare and temporary accommodation. In conjunction with this, BDS are issuing the sites with new, up -to-date emergency lighting log books. In total we are looking to provide the upgrades to approximately 30 Schemes with additional general needs sites also being assessed regarding their necessary upgrades.


January 2018 - Home Security & Home Automation

2018 is the year of the cost effective smart home application, which enables you to control your home with your smartphone. For example, you can unset your integrated BDS intruder alarm from your phone when you wake up and this will then also automatically turn on the kettle or put your heating on, all without you moving out of bed!

January 2018 - Gate Safe Health Centre Sites

Established since 2010, Gate Safe was the pioneering force to first address the issue of automated gate safety. It shares best practice and delivers practical jargon-free guidance to improve the safety of automated gates and barriers

BDS is a gate safe approved installer and has recently advised, then installed safety edges to the most vulnerable areas of the installed gates at South Hornchurch and Church Elm Lane Health Centres based in Essex.
